Diekolola Olatanwa Olaotan Osa-Avielele was born on Tuesday March 02, 1976 to the family of Chief Cornelius and Chief Mrs. Elizabeth Adebayo in Ilorin, Kwara State. Dieko, as she was fondly called, was the second of six children (five girls and a boy). She grew up in Ilorin, attending the University of Ilorin Primary School (1988), University of Ilorin Secondary School (1993) and the University of Ilorin, Kwara State (1999) where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB). After her graduation, she attended the Abuja campus of the Nigerian Law School and was called to Bar in 2001. Dieko later attended Howard University in Washington DC, USA where she obtained her Masters-in-Law (LLM) in 2004.
Upon her return to Nigeria, Dieko worked as the in-house Counsel at Globacom Limited and later moved to Conoil Producing Limited as a Senior Legal Officer but she only spent a few years there (from 2004-2008) before resigning to pursue her passion. She set up Cedarwood Rentals, an events solution company providing customers with range of premium rental options for events of all kinds. Dieko quickly grew Cedarwood into a leading brand in the industry, expanding its offerings to include fixed and mobile Marquee tent solutions – one of the first in the industry- and led to the creation of DVenue Event Center. Her passion for excellence, attention to detail and utmost professionalism was evident in all her business ventures and was recognized severally by the nominations and awards that Cedarwood received from industry bodies including back-to-back nominations for APPOEM (Association of Professional Party Organizers and Event Managers of Nigeria) “Best Multipurpose Hall in Nigeria” 2018 and 2019 and winning the award 2019. Dieko was a founding member and the Vice President of the Island Chapter of the Association of Venue Owners in Nigeria
Diekolola was married to her best friend and ardent supporter, Emmanuel Osa-Avielele, a tenured banker and business strategist. After a long wait, Dieko and Emmanuel were blessed with a baby boy on Tuesday, July 7, 2020. Unfortunately, Dieko suffered from complications thereafter and passed away peacefully on Thursday July 16, 2020.
Though Diekolola was passionate about everything that she did, nothing came close to her passion for her family and loved ones. She was ever-caring and was a defender of all. Diekolola was an ever-loving aunty – loved dearly by all her nephews and nieces who had all been praying for her and looking forward to seeing their “Aunty Dieko’s baby”.
There is no way to describe Diekolola without using the words Passionate, Determined, Bold, Courageous, Focused and Transparent. She always knew what she wanted, never took no for an answer, always found a way through every challenge and lived with a sense of urgency to make an impact. She will be forever missed but always remembered; gone but not forgotten.
